My First Pokemon Only Run: Part 14 Mossdeep City

So I then head towards Mossdeep City, where the next gym is.   Actually I get there a lot quicker than I thought I would.  Only ran into one trainer on the way there.  I do happen to find a King's Rock in town, might make use out of that.  I also happen to get the Dive HM.  Would be awesome if I had a Pokemon that could learn it and if I didn't have to get the Mossdeep gym badge first.  Well since I'm not ready for the gym time to find trainers and a Pokemon that can learn dive.  Lucky enough I found a tentacool and I'm pretty sure it can learn surf, dive, and waterfall so I'm holding on to that.

So I managed to make it all the way to Pacifidlog Town.  So I then go to the left to try and get any items I can.  And I guess experience & money from the trainers is nice.  But it doesn't really feel necessary at this point.  I'll probably need the experience later on.  No yellow shard, which I really want to get so I can get the Thunderstone for 1Standchu.  But I did get a Rare Candy, so that'll be useful.  I think I've gotten all the items I can, so all I can really do is take on the gym.

So I take out all the trainers of the gym... well most of them at least.  Time to heal save and take this on.  Now truth be told, going into this gym, I'm worried.  The problem, it's a double battle and since it's an Only Run, I'm going into this Gym with just 1Standchu.  I got no time to set up with it being a 2 VS one.  The good part about the gym is each of the leaders only have one Pokemon so if I can take one of them out it'll be a fair 1 VS 1.  The question is, can I take out a Pokemon and live to have that 1 VS 1 match?  Let's find out... Wait really?  The gym leaders refuse to fight you if you have just one Pokemon?  And I just took forever resolving that gym puzzle 2! >_<

That's right it's literally impossible to go through this game with just one Pokemon in your party. (That's stupid.)  Don't worry this fight will be as close to an Only Run as I can still.  I guess HM Helper will just get a little extra action.  Note he's still at Lv.6 so don't worry, he's not gonna be helping in the gym battle too much.

So actually makes the fight slightly easier since there's a target for them to hit besides 1Standchu... oh wait they're at Lv.42 each?  I mean 1Standchu is level 60 but still... let's if this works Thunbolt on Solrock.  Solrock wastes it's turn doing Sunny day and Lunatone takes out HM Helper.  Perfect now to finish Sol...shoot I didn't mean to target Lunatone! So that mistake cost me a burn.  No biggy Solrock goes down this time...and Lunatone used Light Screen... what a waste.  I'll just heal my health and burn and be good....*1Standchu faints* OK, I should of probably used a Full Restore instead of trying to use a Hyper Potion then a Full Heal...

Round 2:
OK no making stupid mistakes this time, this battle is in the bag!  So I did the same thing I did before at the start of the battle this time I manage to paralyze the Solrock and Lunatone goes for a Calm Mind letting HM helper live... umm... OK...well this time I took out Solrock with full health so despite the the special boost I can still...Hypnosis really on the Pokemon I'm actually fighting with?  And more Calm Mind spamming did the computer just realize that HM Helper is there for death fodder and is taking advantage of it?  *********  Still can't wake 1Standchu up.  I should of just used the stupid full heal.  Thankfully it woke up just in time to pull off the Sweet Kiss and Lunatone hurt itself in confusion instead of pwning me with a super buff Psychic... I go for the item to raise my critical because with it's current sp.def my thunderbolt is doing nothing... and it breaks through confusion & one-hit-KOs me with Psychic... .__.

Round 3:
OK new plan, Kings Rock on 1Standchu is pointless.  I don't got a Magnet though.  So I'm giving him a Chesto berry so the last round doesn't repeat itself.  So yeah, blah blah I heard this twice already let's just go!  So now Solrock does Psychic on Pikachu and Lunatone just Calm Minds... Solrock goes down and only Lunatone remains... again.  Go for the Sweet Kiss and hope for confusion hurt which I'm lucky enough to get. I mange to get three thunderbolts in while it's fighting off the confusion and YES I won the battle!

So with that I finally get the Mind Badge... YES!  I can use Dive outside of battle, Yellow Shard that'll snag me a Thunderstone, here I come!  I also got Calm Mind, can 1Standchu learn it?  It would be useful if he...of course he can't learn it.  But HM Helper did pick something up... A Full Restore... that could of been helpful.  Well, I have it now.  So I guess now I'm gonna take a break from this only run and next time I start, I'll finally be able to get a Thunderstone.

My First Pokemon Only Run: Part 13 Team Aqua Strikes Again

So after my disapointment of a lack of Thunderstones, I headed off to Mt. Pyre.  Well not quite, I went pass Mt. Pyre first to collect all the items and fight all the trainers I could in the process.

In the process someone in our dorm derped enough to forget to put a little certain something called water into their EasyMac which set off all the fire alarms, forcing everyone to leave the building.  Thankful I had my DS in my hands so I just did a lot of playing of my Only Run while waiting around outside.  Wish I could say this was a shocking experience but honestly the fire alarm goes off so often around here from stupid things like that, I don't take fire alarms seriously anymore and these "fire drills" are more of an annoyance than anything else.  Like I said, got lots done with the Only Run so I'm not complaining too loud.

So after all that I get back inside to actually go through Mt. Pyre not outside in the cold.  There's actually two paths to it, the plot related path and the path with trainers and items.  So of course I took the later first, getting a bunch of stuff including the TM for Shadow Ball (can't teach it to 1 Standchu which is a bummer but oh well, I get the feeling his moveset isn't gonna change to much between now and the end of the game).

So after that I took the path up Mt. Pyre I was suppose to take.  Guess what guys?  Team Aqua has taken over Mt. Pyre!  All not one not two not even three but four of their grunts.  Whatever shall I... oh yeah Lv.54 Pikachu... that takes care of that.  I actually struggled more with organizing my item space for all the items I was getting than over Team Aqua.  I ended up catching about 4 ghost Pokemon just to hold items for me until I could get back to the PC.  I even used a rare candy just to make room for items.  Granted, I made sure it didn't go to waste when I used it but still...

So despite my me handing Team Aqua's butts to them, they still somehow manage to steal an orb from old people.  Now this orb is important for something but I don't feel like explaining it all. Just trust me when I say it's relvant to the plot.  I get handed the other orb that is suppose to be with it.  So I give Team Aqua the other one?  I kid, we got to get the orb they stole back.

So being the plot-convenience villains they are they happen to tell me we're they were going before they left, so time to pursuit!  So we're at Slateport to stop them from stealing a submarine but being the heroes we are, we fail to stop them.  Well, time to Team Aqua's base back at Lilcove.  Oh by the way, yes, the bad guys did tell us to go there.  I see why Team Magma and Aqua fail so hard now.

So in there I roam around beating all the bad guys and collecting items.  *Wanders around a bit*  Oh wait Archie I didn't mean to find you yet, I still got to get the Master Ball!  ....funny you can walk away from him after the explanation point appears above his head.  I never knew that before.  So after wandering around I found some more PP restoring items as well as the Master Ball.  (Yes Team Aqua leaves a valuable item like a Masterball laying right out in the open, I think we've gotten across how mart they are by now though.)  Not that I can actually use it in my Only Run, but there's got to be  something I can catch between my 3rd and 4th generation games with it.  Maybe even 5th generation if I could transfer items to that game but noooo Nintendo thinks it's cool for me to start all my item collect from scratch. >_>

So I've gotten a ton of rare candies and PP restoring items between my collecting from the beginning of this blog post to now. I'm certainly glad for that since I'll need all the PP restoring items I can get for the Elite Four.  I thought I would have to worry about running out of PP for moves, but I think I'll be good especially if there's more of such items to come.  By the way, 1Standchu is now at Lv. 57.

Now that I got everything that I wanted, now to take on Archie hopefully he hasn't gotten the idea of running away betw... what do you know he's still there but wait he's actually grunt... his a super grunt or an admin.  I honestly wasn't expecting a fight and didn't heal but I'm not too worried not even though 1Standchu is paralyzed.  Electrodes, that's how.  So just like I though I just Thunderbolt sweep his team, after fighting against the paralysis of course.  Oh noz Mightyena Swagger me, but wait I break through a para-fuision to defeat the admin, awesome. :D  Not that this fight was any bit of a struggle.

But sadly that guy was just stalling for time too.  Archie got away on his "I-don't-know-what-color-submarine", maybe if I didn't try to get all the items in the dungeon first he wouldn't of gotten away.  Who am I kidding?  It's an RPG time never matters.

Oh and in case you were wondering, yes the super grunt did indeed give-away where Archie was going, though at least he was more vague then all the other advice we've gotten straight from the dumb villain's mouth so far. :P

My First Pokemon Only Run: Part 12 Safari Zone & Shopping with Bret

So first off I finally got the Pokeblock case so I can finally get into the Safari Zone. You may be wondering why I would want to even bother with the Block case in an Only Run. Well basically I looking for more Pikachus. More specifically, one that is holding a Light Ball, a held item that increases Pikachu's special attack.

Now getting this item is a real pain in this game. First I got to find Pikachus in the Safari Zone which is a tedious task in itself just have to scoot around in the grass until you find one which would be fine if they weren't uncommon. Even if you do find one you can't weaken it to catch it, and Pokemon in the Safari Zone can and will run away from you while you throw balls at them. Finally a Pikachu has a real low chance of holding a Light Ball so even if you catch a dozen you may still not get the item.

So after hours in the Safari Zone I come out with 4 Pikachus, 2 of them with Oran Berries and no Light Balls. I guess if I want 1Standchu to get stronger I'll have to evolve it. Speaking of evolving and the Thunderstone, isn't Bret still in front of the Pokemon Mall? I think it's about time I take care of him. But before that, time to stock up on X-items!

So my first attempt is a flop because Marstomp makes all the Xitems I used go to waste with a critical hit Mud Shot. >_<. So I learned the Swellow he sends out likes to spam Double Team which would be great for setting up if it wasn't boosting evasion. But with +2 defense and a critcal hit boost I take Swellow down.

Then comes Marstomp, I get a Sweet Kiss and my guards Spec up so I don't lose too much speed. Then I get lucky enough to take it out with a critcal Facade in one hit. Then comes Shroomish it seem to no longer have Leech Seed so its only threat is through poison. I take advantage of this by getting to more defense boost just in case. Did have to use a Full Restore but besides that not much trouble.

Now last up was his Numel, it went down surprisingly easily. Just one Facade and it hurting itself in confusion in the same turn and Bret was defeated. Now for my prize... all the Xitems I can buy under one roof! Oh and Lemonaid that'll be helpful. But where's the Thunderstones? I could of sworn they sold the elemental stones here. :( If not here, then where? I guess I have some Googling to do...

So apparently I can't get the Thunderstone until I can use dive... that could be a problem. Maybe I should try again to get the Light ball after all...

My First Pokemon Only Run: Part 11 Birdy Gym Leader but no Safari Zone.

So in that next route I meet up with that Steven guy again.  He shows me off a device that makes invisible Pokemon visible.  Convenient anyone?  Well we get that.  Before I head off to the gym I decide to continue exploring the route and taking out as many of the trainers I can while I'm on it to save myself time later.

So after using as much energy as I can out of 1 Standchu, my Ralts teleports us back to the Poke'Center.  After healing Standchu up,  feel ready to take on the gym.  As you can guess, the gym is a flying type so there isn't really anything I was worry about in the gym.  Like I thought, none of the gym trainers gave me any trouble.  The gym leader, on the otherhand, didn't go as planed.

It would of been smooth sailing if it wasn't for her Alteria.  I hit with a thunderbolt.  I realize that its Dragon/Flying type makes electric attacks deal only neutral damage.  Well I think, "meh no big deal, I can still take it out".  And then the dang thing does Earthquake.... O__O  As you  may have guess, that Earthquake whited me out.

I restarted of course and on this second attempt against the leader I didn't mess around.  From the first Pokemon I set up Standchu for the challenge to come.  I used 3 X-defends on him.  But her Swellow kept double-teaming so I basically said "screw it!" and used a fourth X-defend.

After taking the Swellow out the Alteria hit the field.  Gave it the good old Sweet Kiss treatment and then used Strength instead of Thunderbolt.  I think it's actually stronger considering Standchu's item is currently a Silk Scarf and I wasn't getting the Super Effective hit.  Strangely enough it did not use Earthquake the second time around at all.  I think she knew my defenses were too high to do anything plus the confusion helps.

So after that the gym was a joke.  A Pepplier... X4 weakness to electric.... Goodbye!  And with that I get a new gym badge.  Time to move on to a new town.  In the process, I decide to try out that Hidden Power TM on a local Kelcon.  I find out the Hidden Power is Psychic.  Personally I was hoping for Ice but Psychic could come in handy for Grass/Poison types so I held on to it.

Clearing the rest of the trainers in the route I come acrosss Team Aqua who seem to have plans for Mt. Pyre.  I'll check that out later but first Safari Zone yeah!!!  Wait... I need that stupid Pokeblock case just to get in?  Awwwh... it's an only run but I thought it might of helped to at least catch a find a Lightball to give 1 Standchu...until I find a Pokemon that can learn fly that can't be help...on to Lillycove City.

So when I finally get to town first thing I do is scavenge the place for all the items I can find.  Sadly I can't go to the Pokemart where I'll probably need to get a Thunderstone 'cause dang Bret is blocking the entrance and I don't feel like fighting him yet.  After that I surf the water to the right of town.  Team Aqua is blocking my progression but I'm hoping I can at least get my hands on a Wingull to teach Fly to.  Lucky enough I find just that.

So getting my new Fly "helper" Soarin (Unoriginal?  Who really cares? It's an HM slave)  I fly to Slaport to finally give my Ralts a real nickname and that not a stupid one that doesn't make sense to me anymore.  I figure I should give him at least the honor of having something less stupid before going into the PC than RLight for a nickname so I name him TelePort. :p  With Soarin I'm afraid we won't be needing TelePort anymore.  Unless we come across some Flash puzzles.

So I fly back to Lillycove city and that's pretty much were the story ends for now.  Probably should look into what Team Aqua is up to either at their base in Lillycove or with that mob that went to Mt. Pyre.  Oh and Bret gotta take care of him to.  He's probably gonna be the fight of my life with his two ground types being stronger than they ever were before but 1 Standchu is at Lv. 53 and with Soarin to Fly me, I can restock on X-items whenever I need them.  So I should be fine, but we'll see how this works out the next time I play this solo run.

My First Pokemon Only Run: Part 10 Bret and the Invisible Wall

So today I went on to beating Bret, who's full name I can't spell today.  I didn't have to restart but it certainly was a nice battle for one hit-KOing so many Pokemon lately.  Shroomish wasn't too hard until I realized it Leeched Seeded 1 Standchu.  I was a little worried about Marstomp but between Sweet Kiss and healing I was able to finish it off.  He also had a Numel that had me on my toes.  But I pulled it through and won.  Bret gave me TM fly.  Nice, now I don't need my Ralts to teleport me...oh yeah the next gym's badge is required to use it... plus I never caught a Pokemon that could learn the move before hand.

So with after clearing any of the trainers that may be blocking my way, I make it to the next town... or more like a village with how they all live in tree houses.  Checking out the houses one of  the ladies wanted to see if I have discovered my hidden power and I did so in exchange I got the TM for hidden power depending on what type 1 Standchu's hidden power is, this could be very useful.  Either way it's probably the only way for 1 Standchu to have certain move types.  But take a look at that later.

Well the gym is blocked by an invisible wall so I guess I can't go there now.  I mean invisible walls?  Really Nintendo?  Not really, we'll find out what that really is soon enough. :p  But either way all we can do is go to the next route.

My First Pokemon Only Run: Part 9 Weather Insitute

So I continue along my Pokemon Adventure.  You know, doing this Only Run it seems like the more I play the easier the game gets and hence things become less memorable.  It's really weird considering all the times you're told that raising a bunch of Pokemon is better than raising just one.  But then again the first few gyms were a real pain with just one Pokemon.

I collected berries, items, and trainers along the really tall grass and making a stop by the Berry Master's place to take all of his berries.  Remember time doesn't work on my game so it's not like I could grow any new ones or get new berries from him the next day.  1 Standchu didn't struggle against any of the trainers either.  So after all of that I make it to the Weather Institute I beat all the Team Aqua Members including the boss.  No problems with any of them as 1 Standchu took them all out in one attack, maybe two attacks for the admin's Pokemon.  After all that I got a Castform.  Yippee!  Well it's an Only Run so I can't use it, maybe some other day in some other game...

I guess with all that now I can at least take on Bret who I know isn't too far ahead from the Weather Institute... will 1 Standchu have any problems taking him down?  Find out next time.

My First Pokemon Only Run: Part 8 Pwning Daddy

Been a while since I've blogged about this.  Ever since starting school I haven't been able to play GBA games because I haven't brought my DS with me but this time I did so hurray for actually being able to do this Only Run!

Anyways. since the last part I got major hints that we should go back to the gym our trainer's dad owned but first a trip to the desert with our newly obtained GoGo Googles to beat some trainers and pick-up some items.  Including a fossil, which I won't actually be using since this is an only run but I might revive it later to transfer over to my 4th gen game and then over to Pkm Black.

After all that, I headed over to the Petlburg gym 'cause that's clearly were we need to go.  The gym trainers were a joke being in the 20s wile 1 Standchu is around Lv. 45.  I swear, I haven't done any extra training beyond battling trainers since the second gym. >_<  It didn't help that they wasted their first turn using X-items so I could take them out before they even got to attack.

So after beating all the gym trainers and healing I stocked up on X-items for the gym fight.  Not that I even needed them.  I don't think Nomrman stood a chance against Standchu with his around Lv. 25 Pokemon.  I was a bit concern about his first Slanking so I Sweet Kissed it.  Between hurting itself in that same turn and loafing, it didn't even get the chance to attack me before I finished it off.

While he did get to his with his Vigorth and got me down to half health.  There was no worry.  I just healed myself back up and finished it off.  I was a bit worried about his final Slanking when I went for the Sweet Kiss just to see it had Focus Punch.  Lucky for me it hit itself in confusion and didn't get the chance to attack me between loafing and me constantly hitting it so it couldn't use Focus Punch.  So overall it was an easy win and I didn't have to even restart once.  With that victory I got the next badge and the TM Facade.  I'm considering replacing Strength for it.  Strength has 10 more base power, but Facade power gets double if I'm burned, parlayed, or potion so there is the slight chance it could come in handy.  But I can't get rid of Strength right now so I'm stuck with it anyways.

After that Wally's parents gave me surf which is just what I needed to progress through the game.  Thank you plot!  Between the new shortcuts from surf and the bike trail I quickly make my way over to Mauville City where I can now surf across that water to the right of the city.  Except I forgot I never fought the trainers on there.  Well took care of them and healed since I need to get back the PP I used up at the gym before I progress anyways.  After words I surfed over that water and that is where I am now.  So after I beat these trainers on the other side of the water I think I'm going to be done for now and continue this Only Run another day.  Chao!

PS: Right before I really stopped I ran into Steven who blabbled on about stuff about raising more than one type of Pokemon... I'm doing an Only Run does he really think I care?  Oh and there's news reporters I could battle but it's an Only Run and I don't really need the experience so skipping them for now.
